Opera II: A Scalable Solution
Opera II is now the financial management and business solution of choice for small and medium-sized enterprises in the UK today.
The evolution of Opera II now enters a new phase; Opera II Version 3 has been re-branded as Opera II Enterprise, and a new variant of the software introduced – Opera II Small Business. As the name suggests, this is a scaled down version of Opera II, specifically designed to encourage migration from Sage Line 50 and Capital Gold. Opera II Small Business will include all of the functionality (except for Advanced Nominal and XRL) of Opera II Enterprise but will be scalable to: 5 users, 5 companies and 100 employee records (Payroll).
By the end of 2004 Pegasus will release Opera II Enterprise SQL, essentially Opera II Enterprise running on a Microsoft SQL 2000 database, which will attract those larger organisations looking for a SQL server solution.
Opera II Enterprise will remain the solution of choice for the vast majority of our customers. However, the Small Business and SQL variants will ensure Opera II develops into a scalable solution.
The new core functionality includes:
• Conversion Routines – Capital Gold and Sage Line 50
• Unlimited Companies
• New Printing Capabilities
• Model Purchase Orders
• Maximise Screen Preview
• Stock Views
• Graphical Illustration on Views
• Copy Data Function
• Expanding the Notes Facility
• Chart of Accounts
• Reprint Nominal Journals
• Editing Sales Order when Progressing to Inoice
• New Stock Processing Options
• Graphical Illustration on Customer/Supplier Turnover
• Cashbook Import
• POP Orders Report
• Purchase Ledger Payment, Cheque/BACS List
• EC VAT – Email SD Report
Unlimited Companies
The ability to configure Opera II for more than 36 companies is now available with the introduction of the new Additional System function in System Manager. It can be accessed by logging in as ADMIN and is only available when Opera II Enterprise is activated for 50 or unlimited companies.
When an additional system is created, existing reports in the Reporter module, User Security settings, and People Profiles from the main system can be copied to the new system. To access additional systems, users will have to enter their Login ID, Password and which system they wish to access at the login screen. Where additional systems are not in use the standard login screen is displayed
New Printing Capabilities
Using the Report Layout Manager it is now possible to direct special reports such as orders, invoices etc (special documents) to a particular printer and printer tray. There is also the ability to chain special reports, so that the second or subsequent copy of the report is directed to a different printer or printer tray. This function can also be used to include/exclude information on subsequent copies (ie an internal copy) of the document.
Model Purchase Orders
A new function called Models in Purchase Order Processing allows the creation of Model Orders. This is an extremely useful and time saving facility for those customers who have repeat orders from their suppliers. Standard reports published to screen are now displayed in a maximised window by default.
Stock Views allow stock movements to be analysed based on user-definable hierarchies and data ranges. A tree view display, identical to the views in Nominal, Sales and Purchase, provides quick access to management information together with full drill down facilities to stock transactions. Up to six levels of user-definable analysis can be specified based on the following fields: Stock Ref, Warehouse, Type, Account, Category, Sales Code, Supply Code, Year, Month.
The Stock View itself displays the following fields: Description, Quantity, Selling Value, Cost Value.
Graphical illustrations
The view screens (Nominal, Sales, Purchase and Stock) have been extended so that the data in the view screen can be displayed graphically.
Copy Data Functions
The ability to copy data from the View screens to the clipboard has always been available using CTRL +C. This facility has now been included on the View Action menu under an option called Copy Data, making this useful facility more accessible to both new and existing customers
Expanding the Notes Facility
When notes are generated a variety of information can be stored. The Customer and Supplier Notes facilities have been extended to record a system generated note when the E-mail function is used in the following areas:
• Customer/Suppliers Contacts Form
• Sales/Purchase E-mail Toolbar
• Customer/Supplier Contacts Reports
System generated notes are also now recorded with a completion date.
Chart of Accounts
The Nominal Chart of Accounts report can now be sequenced by Account, Cost Centre and Type/Sub Type.
Reprint Nominal Journals
Historically, when re-printing a range of journals, each journal was published as a separate Adobe Acrobat PDF file. This routine has been changed so that where a range of journals are now re-printed they are published to one PDF file.
Editing Sales Order when Progressing to Invoice
It is now possible to edit the sales order when you use the Progress function to raise the sales invoice. This facility is only available when the Use Delivery Process is not active.
Stock Processing Options
Two new options have been added to the Stock Record that determines whether the stock item can be used in Invoicing/SOP and POP Processing. When the stock item options are disabled they are not available for selection and any existing documents (with the exception of model purchase orders) currently in the system will continue to be processed as normal.
Graphical Illustration on Customer/Supplier Turnover
The graphical illustration on the Customer/Supplier Turnover drilldown form now uses the same tools used in the View screens
Cashbook Import
Where purchase payments and refunds are imported via the Import module, the Cashbook is now updated with these transactions.
POP Orders Report
The POP Orders report can now be produced based upon a due date range facility. The dates entered are applied against the Date Required field on the purchase orders.
Purchase Ledger Payments:Cheque/BACS List
The Cheque and BACS List reports now allow the user to confirm whether the report has printed successfully. If the user replies No the files are not updated and the user can elect to re-print or re-run the report at a later date.
EC VAT – E-mail SD Report
With effect from April 2004, Customs & Excise no longer accept EDI SD submissions on floppy disk, but do accept submissions via E-mail. Opera II has been enhanced to reflect this change; the Copy to Floppy option for EDI SD submission has been removed and replaced by an E-mail SD Report option.
